The MahaKumbh Mela, held every 12 years in Allahbad, India is nothing short of a photographer's utopia. 100 million people from all walks of life arrive in Allahbad, using every means of transport imaginable, for the 55 day festival and to bathe at the point where the three holy rivers, Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswathi meet. It is said that there is no greater pilgrimage in all of hinduism. This year saw the largest collection of humans in one place since the beginning of time. I was fortunate to go and it would be true to say that no words can do justice to the sheer magnitude of this holiest of holy festivals. I have tried to capture what I saw with my camera and I will be posting lots more pictures of this unbelievable spectacle in days to come. Here is one of my favourite images.
